The climax of the conversation between Abram and God is puzzling. One wonders why God asked Abram to try and count the stars in the night sky. Abram is frustrated by the seemingly impossible situation he faces in not having a son, and God asked him to do something truly impossible for humans. Even today, with all our technology, there is no way to know how many stars are in the universe. What was God trying to prove to Abram?
